Speaker, author, and executive coach, Dr. Paul DeChant advises C-level healthcare executives on managing critical problems such as financial and staffing challenges by addressing the root causes of clinician burnout.
Following 25 years practicing family medicine in settings as varied as the San Francisco bay area, Breckenridge Colorado, and Geisinger Health in Central Pennsylvania, he became CEO of the 300-physician Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, where he led a five-year transformation based on the Lean principles of Respect for People and Continuous Improvement. Developing a management system and culture that empowered and aligned the clinicians, the group achieved recognition by Consumer Reports as the highest performing among 170 medical groups across the State of California two years in a row, while improving physician satisfaction from the 45th to 87th percentile on AMGA’s Provider Satisfaction Survey.
Since 2014, Dr. DeChant has been consulting with senior leaders in health systems across the United States on achieving similar results by implementing a Lean management system and culture. He has delivered over 100 keynote speeches to medical staff and professional organization meetings.
Paul received his MD from the Oregon Health Sciences University and his MBA from the University of Colorado-Denver.
